Developed as a casual range of wines, the Watagan series are principally made from grapes grown on Mount Vincent Estates Lower Hunter Valley vineyard. Named after the Watagan Ranges that surround Mount Vincent, the labels each depict separate sections of a large landscape painting that hangs in the private members room at the Lodge.
The art was commissioned in 1994 and was painted over a 12 month period by Lord Charles Gosford, an English Earl and graduate of the Royal Academy. Charles came to Australia in the early 1990's for a festival in the town that bears his name and never returned to Old Blighty. To this day, he resides in Gosford on the Central Coast of NSW.
Tropical fruit flavours and aromas balanced by dry citrus characters. Pineapple and passionfruit flavours are underpinned by the lifted citric characters of the Semillon of this great Hunter blend.
Tropical fruits and passionfruit are supported by citric characters on both the nose and palate of this wine. With 'sherbet acid' on the fore-palate it makes a very refreshing afternoon drink.
This Rosé has delightful rose petal, toffee apple and tangerine touches on the nose as suggested by its colour. The palate is soft and fruity with the spiciness of young Shiraz lifted by citrus characters.
Soft elegant berry fruit flavours with subtle oak and pepper aromas. A red for every occasion!
